The State Investment Board's approximately $30 billion portfolio is managed by the Retirement and Investment Office (RIO). The portfolio includes assets for seven pension funds, including the pensions of over 75,000 North Dakotans, as well as twenty-four non-pension funds. The ND portfolio is also unique because of our sovereign wealth fund, the Legacy Fund.

We go where North Dakota's future investors already are. RIO recruits directly from the accounting, analytics, business, computer science, data science, economics, finance, physics, and statistics programs at local universities, with particular focus on school-led investment funds and student investment organizations where students are already doing the work.
